Bosch: Legacy will end its run on Prime Video and Amazon Prime Video after its upcoming third season, which is scheduled for release in March.
I have to say I’m disappointed by the news, because I love this series, but the Bosch universe will continue: the next series Untitled Ballard will debut on Prime Video and Amazon Freevee in the fall of 2025.
Vernon Sanders, head of television at Amazon MGM Studios, said in a statement: “For 10 years, Bosch AND Bosch: Legacy have been two of our most iconic series for Prime Video, Freevee and Amazon MGM Studios.
“They are a testament to the enduring power of the storytelling universe Michael Connelly has built for fans. We are proud of the impact these series have had and are thrilled that Michael, Titus, Henrik and the creative team have more compelling stories to tell in the world of Bosch with the final season of Bosch: Legacy, our new Ballard series and much more to come.”
Executive Producer Michael Connelly added: “I’m so proud of what we’ve accomplished with this show. Ten years ago I asked Titus Welliver if he could stay with Harry Bosch for five seasons, and he said he could do it forever.
“Well, five became 10 and the character, thanks to Titus, will live forever in the hearts of viewers and the streaming world as the detective who knows that either everyone matters or no one matters.
“The good news is that we haven’t seen the last of Harry Bosch yet. As in the books, Bosch is part of Renée Ballard’s world and I can’t wait for the next chapter to open.”
Bosch: Legacy follows Harry Bosch, a retired detective turned private investigator, as he embarks on the next chapter of his career; attorney Honey “Money” Chandler (Mimi Rogers), who struggles to maintain her faith in the justice system after surviving an attempted murder; and Maddie Bosch (Madison Lintz), as she discovers the possibilities and challenges of being a rookie cop patrolling the streets of Los Angeles.
The Renée Ballard series follows “Detective Renée Ballard (Maggie Q), who has been tasked with heading the Los Angeles Police Department’s new cold case division, an all-volunteer, underfunded unit with the largest caseload in the city.
“Ballard approaches these cases frozen in time with empathy and determination. When he uncovers a larger conspiracy during his investigation, he will enlist the assistance of his retired ally, Harry Bosch, to face the dangers that threaten both his unit and his life.”
This Renée Ballard character is said to be based on LAPD Detective Mitzi Roberts. This is one of two spin-offs currently in development that are inspired by the novels written by Michael Connelly.
The other series is the Untitled J. Edgar project, which follows Harry Bosch’s former partner, Detective Jerry Edgar, who is assigned to an undercover FBI mission in Little Haiti, Miami.
Bosch: Legacy The third season is based on Connelly’s best-selling novels Desert Star AND The black ice. “The investigation into Kurt Dockweiler’s murder uncovers dangerous secrets and threatens to ruin the lives of our three main characters.
“The disappearance of a family haunts Harry Bosch and forces him to confront the limits of justice. In a tight race, Honey ‘Money’ Chandler is poised to become Los Angeles’ next district attorney. And Maddie Bosch becomes embroiled in a series of violent home robberies.”
Who knows, maybe another series centered on Titus Welliver’s Harry Bosch will come out in the future.
