Netflix has released a new set of character posters Guillermo del Toro’S Frankensteingiving fans a closer look at the tragic faces that bring this gothic masterpiece to life. In an interview with Variety, del Toro explained what drives this adaptation on a deeper emotional level. “For me, [the message] it’s emotionally reconnecting to the idea of ​​the power of forgiveness and acceptance – which is absolutely… very scarce material right now,” he said.

“It’s not a blockbuster, a preconceived concept. It’s not a franchise. It’s something that speaks very directly and autobiographically, unfortunately to me and to many in the past.”

Del Toro’s Frankenstein it’s clearly a decades-long passion project. “This film concludes a quest that began at age 7, when I first saw James Whale’s Frankenstein films. I felt the jolt of recognition at that pivotal moment: Gothic horror became my church and Boris Karloff my Messiah.”

The story centers on Victor Frankenstein, a brilliant but arrogant scientist whose obsession with defeating death leads him to create life in the form of a tortured being. The experiment spirals out of control, binding creator and creation in a tragic dance of destruction, loneliness, and the longing for acceptance.

While initial reactions to Frankenstein have been mixed, comprehensive reviews have been positive, with the film currently holding an 81% rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 96 reviews. The film’s dark, emotional tone and rich visuals appear to have resonated with audiences who appreciate del Toro’s signature blend of horror and humanity.

Fans will also get a special treat on October 31, when del Toro screens Frankenstein in IMAX at the TCL Chinese Theater in Los Angeles, followed by a Q&A. Guests are even encouraged to come dressed as their favorite Del Toro characters, which seems like the perfect Halloween night for movie lovers.

Frankenstein will be released in select theaters on October 17 before its global debut on Netflix on November 7.
