The pregnant rapper appeared in a sculptural snow-white dress with a deep lace neckline along the entire length, a transparent skirt with a train and a voluminous neckline that turned into impromptu wings. Ilya’s handwriting is clear. For Migmun, this project could become not only a high-profile debut on the world stage, but also recognition of its author’s style. This is not just a designer’s achievement, but also a sign that Russian fashion is increasingly asserting itself in an international context as bold, experimental and open.

Ilya Migmun
Ilya Migmun told The Fashion Vibes exclusively how the collaboration with Cardi B came about, how the dress was created, what difficulties were encountered in the process, and what to expect from the designer’s future global projects.
How did the collaboration with Cardi B come about?
Cardi B’s team reached out to me with a reference from their Dog magazine shoot. The stylist said she really wanted a dress like this. No one mentioned Cardi was pregnant, which I found out later. It all happened quite unexpectedly and very quickly.
What was the inspiration for the dress?
The inspiration comes from my personal history with birds and my visual language.
How long did it take to create the dress from sketch to final result? Were there any difficulties in the process?
Deadlines were very tight. When the team contacted me, shooting was supposed to happen in about one and a half to two weeks. The dress was created as quickly as possible to fit the parameters of the pregnant Cardi, without the possibility of trying on or adjusting.
How did you organize the logistics of such a sensitive job from Russia to the USA?
This was perhaps the most stressful part of the whole story. Several times it was not possible to send the dress. Cardi’s team also couldn’t find a reliable delivery method from Moscow to the US. As a result, a miracle happened: The dress was sent as luggage through a friend. Everything went perfectly – nothing was damaged, the dress arrived safe and sound.
Did you get any feedback from Cardi B and her team after the shoot?
I got feedback, everything is fine. The team wrote that this was a favorite look in the shoot because it’s Cardi’s new name.
Do you have any other plans to collaborate with world artists?
Yes, cooperation is planned. Even now I work with many artists. I can’t tell you their names, but soon they will be world names.
Let us remind you that Ilya Migmun gave us a long interview in which he shared his story, told what inspired him, who he wanted to work with, and also how he looked at his first major exhibition. You can read the entire interview here.
