In case you’re wondering why we haven’t seen Lieutenant Schreiber reprise his role as Sabertooth in Deadpool and Wolverinein reality it all depended on the fact that he didn’t want to train and get back in optimal physical condition for the role.
During an interview with Collider, the actor was asked why he returned to play this classic Marvel character and this was his answer:
“To be honest, it’s hard work to get your body to that point. I know I looked up to Hugh [Jackman] he got ready again and I thought, “It’s okay to just stand aside.”
It’s not easy to get into peak physical shape! It takes hard work, exhausting training and discipline, and he wasn’t up to the task.
But that doesn’t mean he isn’t grateful to the fans and their support in wanting to see him back as Sabertooth, calling it “incredible.”
Schreiber continued, “I can’t even begin to tell you what it feels like when people think about something you’ve done and are so grateful for it that they want you to do it again. I was so surprised that people were campaigning for me to be in the new Deadpool movie.”
I wonder if the whole Sabertooth aspect of the movie would have been different if Schreiber had signed on. There was a whole Sabertooth battle advertised in the movie, but that came and went pretty quickly. I wonder if they would have given the character and his arc more attention if Schreiber had returned.
I guess we’ll never know.
