20th Century Studios has launched a brand new behind-the-scenes featurette Dan Trachtenbergthe next sci-fi action film Predator: Badlandsand it’s full of really interesting glimpses into the filmmaking process.
After two full trailers, fans can now get their first real look at the film’s scenes, practical effects, and the man in the costume. Predator design that has become a staple of the franchise.
The footage shows Trachtenberg and his team working in wild, remote locations, using real environments and physical costumes before applying layers of CGI to enhance the action.
It’s also explained that the idea came from the question, “What if we took this classic movie monster and made you root for it?”
“The director of Prey welcomes you to a world of pain,” the featurette teases, setting the tone for what looks like another gritty, intense chapter in the series. Predator saga.
The featurette highlights the film’s commitment to practical effects, something fans love to see in genre franchises like this, especially in an age where CGI is the primary tool used nowadays.
Set in the distant future on a desolate planet, Predator: Badlands follows a young Yautja outcast, played by Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangiwho was estranged from his clan.
During his quest to prove himself and hunt down the ultimate adversary, he meets Thia, an android played by Elle Fanningand the two form an unlikely alliance. Their journey takes them into hostile terrain filled with both alien and human dangers, setting the stage for a high-stakes battle for survival.
It’s exciting to see Trachtenberg return to the director’s chair after his incredible work 10 Cloverfield Lane AND Prey. The director has demonstrated his ability to balance tension, character and creative action, and Badlands it seems to be pushing this and the franchise even further.
The film’s screenplay was co-written by Trachtenberg and Patrick Aisonbased on the characters originally created by Jim Thomas AND John Thomas.
With a talented cast, fantastic visuals and the promise of brutal, grounded sci-fi action, Predator: Badlands seems poised to deliver the kind of cinematic experience that demands to be seen on the big screen.
Predator: Badlands will be released in cinemas nationwide on November 7, 2025.
