Like fans of Invincible have enjoyed watching the animated series on Prime Video and are eagerly awaiting the release of season three, but many are still wondering what’s happening with the live-action adaptation for the big screen, which has been in development since 2017.
During a recent interview with The Direct, the creator Robert Kirkman offered an update on that film and explained why it’s taking so long, saying, “It’s still in development. We’re still working with Universal. You know, the show’s doing so well. I think the movie has to be absolutely perfect.
“And so it takes a lot of time, like getting the pieces aligned and making everything work so that we can go out and make it the best it can be.
“So, it’s been in development for a long time and will probably be in development for a long time to come.”
He went on to explain that the film needs to be a different experience than the series, saying, “Just because it has to be a different experience than the series, it still has to be true to Invincible in some interesting ways.
“But it has to be its own thing. It has to stand on its own two feet. And so it’s something that we’re spending a lot of time on. But I think when it finally happens, it’s going to be really cool.”
So, after seven years, the Invincible movie is still in development. The creative team must be having a hard time figuring out exactly what they want to do with the movie. If there are any problems behind the scenes, Kirkman won’t say anything,
Kirkman previously said, “Sometimes movies take a little longer. I think it’s safe to say that, if anything, the show has just helped immensely. People are very excited about that cinematic potential at Universal. So, we’re riding that momentum and trying to move things forward as quickly as possible.”
But it’s not happening very quickly. After ten months, there was still no script. Kirkman said, “We’re still in the development stage of the script. I think once we get the script to where it needs to be, I think we’ll be in a good place and we can move pretty quickly after that.
“But all the factors I just talked about are things we’re thinking about: How does it feel new? How does it feel different? How is it going to feel special? Those are tall orders.
“We also have to find a way to play with the animated series, but also differentiate ourselves and give the film a reason to exist. There is a lot of work to do. But we are confident.”
The film is written and directed by Seth Rogen AND Evan Goldberg.
Invincible It is described as a story full of suspense, action and emotions, which is based on touching and moving moments of love, friendship and humanity.
The story centers on seventeen-year-old Mark Grayson, who is like any other boy his age, except that his father is the most powerful superhero on the planet, Omni-Man. But as Mark develops his powers, he discovers that his father’s legacy may not be as heroic as it seems.
