It seems Michael B. Jordan he could step into the fashionable shoes of Ricardo Tubbs for Joseph Kosinskiit is imminent Miami Vice film at Universal Pictures.
According to Deadline, Jordan is in early talks to play the role of the iconic detective in what could be one of the studio’s biggest crime thrillers on the horizon.
While it’s still early days and no deal has been finalized, sources say Jordan is “engaging and interested” after the project’s schedule was moved up to allow him to wrap up work on his next directorial endeavor, The Thomas Crown case. The plan is to shoot Miami Vice later in 2026, setting the release date for August 6, 2027.
Kosinski, known for films such as Top Gun: nonconformist AND Tron: Legacyis leading the project, with Eric Warren Singer AND Dan Gilroy write the screenplay. Kosinski and Dylan Clark are producing. Universal has yet to make any official comments, but insiders say the studio is confident in the creative team and direction of the film.
The new Miami Vice will reinvent the world of mid-1980s Miami, immersing itself in the glamour, excess and corruption that defined the era. Inspired by the original NBC series that ran from 1984 to 1989, this film will revisit the stylish and dangerous streets that helped shape pop culture.
The film is based on characters created by Antonio Yerkovichwho developed the original show along with the executive producer Michael Mann. That series is famous Don Johnson AND Filippo Michele Tommaso household names like Sonny Crockett and Ricardo Tubbs, two detectives who brought their personal style to undercover policing.
According to insiders, the official offer for Jordan arrived last week after the studio changed the production dates. Jordan reportedly responded strongly to Dan Gilroy’s latest rewrite, which appears to have pushed the talks into serious territory.
As for who might play Tubbs’ partner Sonny Crockett, the role remains open. Universal is reportedly looking to secure Jordan’s co-star soon to bring the duo back for a new generation.
Miami Vice could deliver the kind of sleek, dynamic, and stylish action that both Kosinski and the franchise are known for.
