Maika Monroe says script for IT FOLLOWS sequel is ‘outstanding’ and hopes to start filming next year

More than a decade has passed since then Continued has terrified audiences with its slow-burn terror and unique supernatural premise, but the creepiness isn’t over yet.

Maika Monroewho starred in the original film, recently gave fans an update on the long-awaited sequel, and it looks like things are finally moving forward.

During a recent interview with Decider, Monroe shared that writer and director David Robert Mitchell she’s already completed the script and is eager to return to the haunting world that made her a horror icon.

“I hope the rumors are about next year. I don’t need to get into a bunch of schedules and stuff like that, but we’ve all been busy.”

The actress went on to tease how impressed she is with the new story.

“But this script is really good. I definitely think this movie should get made, because I think the fans will be really happy. I think it’s great. We’ll see. Fingers crossed!”

In ContinuedMonroe played Jamie “Jay” Height, a teenager hunted by a mysterious, shape-shifting entity that transfers from person to person through sexual contact.

The film has become a modern horror classic and has been praised for its atmosphere, originality and chilling soundtrack. It currently holds a 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and is often credited with helping usher in a new wave of smart, stylish horror.

There’s been talk of a sequel for years Tom Quinnco-president of Radius-TWC, even hinted at it in 2015. After years of speculation, official confirmation finally came in October 2023, when it was announced that Monroe and Mitchell would reunite for the project.

The sequel was developed by Neon and Good Fear Content, two studios known for supporting bold and creative genre films. It will be interesting to see how the story progresses with the next film.
