Bridget Jones, Helen Fielding’s beloved eccentric heroine immortalized in four acclaimed romantic comedies starring Oscar winner Renée Zellweger, will be represented in the form of a statue in London’s Leicester Square, Deadline writes.
Eric Fellner, who runs Working Head with co-chairman Tim Bevan, said: “Incredibly, for the first time in Working Head’s history, we are erecting a bronze statue of one of our best-loved characters in Leicester Square and it’s so exciting.” The statue, created by London-based 3D Eye company, will be opened on November 17 with a ceremony attended by Renée Zellweger.
Monument will join previous characters such as Chris Washington, played by Daniel Kaluuya in Get Out, Mary Poppins, Gene Kelly in Singin’ in the Rain, Batman, Paddington and Wonder Woman.
Next year will mark the 25th anniversary of the release of the first Bridget Jones’s Diary movie. In this movie, the leading role was played by actress Renee Zellweger, and the leading roles in her life were played by Hugh Grant and Colin Firth. In these films, Zellweger fascinated everyone with her comedic talent.
By the way, a monument was erected in memory of Sofia Vergara in her hometown this summer.
