LANTERNS star says the Green Lantern Corps is ‘extremely relatable’ because they ’embrace their flaws in a beautiful way’

The highly anticipated DC series Lanterns has officially finished filming and is starring Aaron Pierrewho plays the role of John Stewart, is opening up about what fans can expect from the show and why the Green Lantern Corps might be one of the most relatable heroes in the DC Universe.

“We recently concluded Lanterns. It was a huge shoot. It was large in scale in every sense of the word,” Pierre told Esquire, reflecting on the production and expressing his appreciation for being part of such an ambitious project.

Pierre went on to share some thoughts on what sets these emerald protectors apart from other superheroes

“One of the things I love most about the Lantern Corps is that, yes, they are heroes. Yes, they are celebrated and defended as such, but they embrace their flaws in a beautiful way.

“It makes them extremely relatable. We would have this conversation on set a lot. I feel like, knowing what I know and what we did this season, even if I wasn’t a part of it, I would look at it and say, ‘I know those guys. In real life, I know those guys.'”

Pierre’s connection to the material is clearly deep. He went on to highlight how the series explores the human side of these cosmic peacekeepers:

“It’s a really beautiful thing, that there is an access point to these heroes. There are multiple access points to these heroes, because they are flawed and they embrace their flaws and they don’t shy away from their flaws.

“They try their best to actively, consciously redeem themselves. When you watch it, it almost makes you say, ‘You know what? If I could just figure out where to get my application, I could be in the Green Lantern Corps.’

“The training would be intense and the responsibility enormous, but I could just apply and try.” There’s just a relativity to it that’s beautiful. I hope this resonates with everyone.

It’s clear Lanterns it won’t be just another superhero story, it looks like it will be a grounded, character-driven look at what it means to be imperfect while simultaneously striving for greatness.

Alongside Pierre’s John Stewart, the series features Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan, Nathan Fillion returning as Guy Gardner, and Ulrich Thomsen like Sinestro. It’s also in the cast Kelly MacDonald, Garrett DillahuntAND Laura Linneycompleting an impressive ensemble.

Lanterns will follow Hal Jordan as he nears retirement and begins training John Stewart, a promising new recruit to the Green Lantern Corps. With its mix of cosmic adventures and personal storytelling, this show is sure to be a great entry into the next lineup of the DCU.
