Netflix is developing a series adaptation of the comic book Vault Barbarian with Patrick Stewart (Star Trek, X-Men) AND Sam Claflin (Daisy Jones & the Six, Peaky Blinders) set to asterisk. Additionally, Michael’s Bay is in talks to lead the project.
Barbarian is described as “Deadpool meets game of Thrones for the way it mixes gonzo violence and humor.”
The story is set in a medieval fantasy world and follows the journey of Owen (Claflin), a barbarian cursed to do the right thing, and his talking (and horny) axe (voiced by Stewart), who team up to face a great evil.
Ok, I haven’t read this comic, but it looks really funny! The comic is by the writer Michael Moreci and artist My First Encounter with Nathan Gooden.
The official description for the comic reads: “Owen the Barbarian has been cursed to do good with what’s left of his life. His bloodthirsty weapon, Axe, has become his moral compass amidst a drinking problem.
“Together they wander the kingdom, destined to help anyone who seeks assistance. But there is one thing Owen hates more than a life with rules: witches.
“Welcome to the skull-smashing, blood-splattering, chaos-loving comic book that’s brave enough to ask: How can a man sworn to do good do so much violence? Ha ha! I’m fucking you. This is just… BARBARIAN.”
It sounds like a huge, all-encompassing project, and I can see Bay doing some wild, crazy things.
