Studio Ghibli announced today that famed filmmaker Hayao Miyazaki has released a new film titled ” how do you live in Japanese cinemas on July 14, 2023.

Toho releases Photo Japan, which will be Miyazaki’s first film in 10 years. His last release was the 2013 World War film The wind is blowinga fictional biographical film about the Japanese pilot Jiro Horikoshi.

The studio didn’t give any further details about the photo, but shared a sketch on its social media accounts to accompany the news. The image appeared to be a bird with white and blue feathers.

In an interview with The New York Times last year, Miyazaki said the picture was based on Genzaburo Yoshino’s book of the same name from 1937. The story follows a teenager in Tokyo who moves in with his uncle after the death of his father. The novel would be one of the director’s favorites.

Toshio Suzuki, co-founder and producer of Studio Ghibli, describes the film as “fantasy on a grand scale.” When asked by the Times why he decided to return to filmmaking to direct the film, Miyazaki simply replied, “Because I wanted to.”

Miyazaki retired several times during his career, the first time in the late 1990s. However, a year later he returned to direct the Oscar-winning 2002 Studio Ghibli film Mentally gone.

Earlier this year, Studio Ghibli, founded in 1985 by Miyazaki, Suzuki and Isao Takahata, teamed up with LucasFilm on an animated short titled Zen. The film was released on Disney+ in November and focused on Grogu, the escapee Mandalorian Character known to many as Baby Yoda.

A stage adaptation of Miyazaki’s classic 1988 film My neighbor Totoro by composer Joe Hisaishi and the Royal Shakespeare Company also officially opened at London’s Barbican Theater in October.
