Here are the 3 “exceptional women” who will soon appear on our coins

On Wednesday 6 March, the Paris Mint presented its three new coins of 10, 20 and 50 cents bearing the image of “three exceptional women” resting at the Pantheon.

Three profiles historical. On Wednesday 6 March La Monnaie de Paris presented its three new coins. 10, 20 and 50 cents. These will bear the effigy of the historical female figures of France, who rest in the Pantheon: Simone Velo, Josephine Baker AND Maria Curieas you can see in the tweet below.

These “three exceptional women” I am “sources of daily inspiration for everyone”, described the Paris Mint saluting “ their contribution to the influence of France and republican values “.

Coins put into circulation this summer

Simone Veil, Auschwitz survivor, the former minister who promoted the law to legalize voluntary termination of pregnancy, will be the face of the 10 cent coins. On the 20 cent coins, resistance and feminist and anti-racist activist Joséphine Baker will appear, while on the 50 cent coins she will be the two-time Nobel Prize winner for science Marie Curie.


The design of the new coins was imagined by the general engraver of the Paris Mint, Joaquin Jimenez. They will gradually be put into circulation by summer 2024. The old coins will remain usable.
