As is known, this song was the last song Chester managed to work on, because exactly two months later the lead singer of the band committed suicide. The composition was created during the work on the album One More Light. The track’s existence was first revealed in 2020, when guitarist Mike Shinoda said during a livestream: “We mixed more songs than appeared on the finished One More Light album. We considered using the track Friendly Fire for the extended version of the record.”

Let us remind you that the death of Linkin Park’s lead singer Chester Bennington was learned on July 20, 2017. The 41-year-old musician committed suicide: He was found in a house in Palos Verdes, California, on the birthday of his close friend, Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell. The musicians were close friends; Chester was going through a difficult time because at that time it had been six months since Chris’s suicide.
