It was recently announced that the classic 1968 film Chitty Chitty Bang Bang would be remade by Amazon MGM Studios. Now we have learned that the film will be directed by Matilda the Musical director Matthew Warchus.
Originally written by Bond creator Ian Fleming as a bedtime story for his son Casper, the film is about a magical flying machine, from a screenplay written by the Tony winner Enda Walsh (Little things like this). Eon Productions and Amazon MGM Studios are producing the film, which is in early development.
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is a magical adventure about Caractacus Potts (Dick Van Dyke), an eccentric inventor who restores a broken-down car together with his sons, Jeremy (Adriano Sala) and Jemima (Heather Ripley).
The car, called Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, turns out to have incredible powers, including the ability to fly and float on water. Together with the charming Truly Scrumptious (Sally Ann Howes), the family embarks on a journey full of wacky escapades, defeating the evil Baron Bomburst (Gert Fröbe) and his scheming wife, the Baroness (Anna Quayle), who want to steal Chitty for themselves.
Along the way, they are confronted by the terrifying Child Catcher (Roberto Helpmann) and help liberate the oppressed children of Vulgaria.
