Chris Pratt talks about the jokes that made him most uncomfortable on PARKS & RECREATION

Chris Pratt He had roles in a couple of racy teen dramas in the early 2000s, as well as a few movies here and there, but his career really got a boost when he was cast as the goofy and lovable Andy Dwyer on the NBC favorite series from the fans Parks and recreation.

The cast and writing were top-notch, and Pratt’s work on the show ran parallel to his film roles, launching him to A-list movie star status.

The entire cast often talks about their love for the series and their former castmates, but there was one recurring issue that made Pratt feel uncomfortable on set.

During a recent conversation with his co-star Jim O’Heirwho played Jerry Gergich on the show, the pair talked about O’Heir’s new memoir”Welcome to Pawnee: Stories of Friendship, Waffles, Parks and Recreation,” which just hit shelves last month.

O’Heir told Pratt: “I remember that you, especially more than others, were concerned that some of Jerry’s bits were…mean. I remember you saying, “Jimmy, are these good for you?”… Do you remember that feeling?”

Pratt replied: “I want it, I want it. I was worried in some of those moments because I care about you and I love you, and I knew there were some lines that were, like, bad.

“But more naughty than funny. If it’s a joke, it’s funny. But if it’s mean for the sake of being mean, well, I’m not a big fan of mean humor and just wanted to check in on you.

Pratt exerted a lot of influence on the set in the show’s later years, as he was becoming a household name in films like Guardians of the Galaxy AND Jurassic world.

He recalled “one time when I stepped on something… There was that time when you use the printer and it says something like, ‘Jerry sucks’ on a piece of paper, and I simply said: ‘I don’t think it’s funny. I don’t know.’ For the most part, I succeeded, but there were a couple of times where I think he went too far and I was worried about you.

The funny part of Jerry’s gag is that as we learned about the character’s outside life, we saw that he had a wonderful wife, a bunch of great kids who loved him, and he was just incredibly loved in his community.

O’Heir said this lessened the blow of playing the character, saying in his book: “My theory was, ‘It’s fun and these are just jobs. I’m happy to be here.”

However, he told Pratt that the frequent check-ins meant a lot to him, saying, “Just so you know, this meant the world to me. You controlled me, [Amy Poehler] you checked me out, and it’s not like I expected everyone to check me out, but the fact that you did was so special.

It’s nice to know that when the cameras weren’t rolling, the cast made sure they took care of each other. It shows in the way they talk to each other and about each other when they look back on their time creating Parks and recreation.
