EVIL DEAD RISE director Lee Cronin will write and direct THE MUMMY for New Line Cinema

Here’s some great news for all the horror movie fans out there! Lee Cronin (Dead evil rises) is set to write and direct The Mummywhich is a new film he set up at New Line Cinema.

Cronin shared a sneak peek of the script on social media with the caption: “Something terrifying will be unleashed in 2026.”

The director later told THR: “This will be unlike any Mummy movie you’ve ever laid eyes on before. I’m digging deep into the earth to unearth something very old and very scary.”

It looks damn awesome! I would love to see a Mummy movie that actually delivers true horror and terror! It sounds like fun to me, and Cronin is the director who will be able to convey it.

Atomic Monster and Blumhouse will co-finance and produce the film, which is scheduled for release on April 17, 2026.

The film will be produced by James Wan, Jason Blum AND John Keville. The Mummy Movie in a post on its official Instagram page, writing: “Something terrifying will be unleashed in 2026.”

Universal Pictures presented The Mummy in 1932 and the film starred Boris Karloff as the iconic Imhotep. The Mummy was later adapted into a successful action-adventure franchise in the 1990s starring Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz.

Universal’s latest film, Mummy, starring Tom Cruise, crashed and burned at the box office. That movie was horrible and derailed the Dark Universe plans Universal was trying to build.

I’m excited about this new version of The Mummy and can’t wait to see what Cronin has to offer! I have a feeling it’s going to make Universal Pictures jealous.
