Mike Flanagan is developing another Stephen King project with an adaptation of an eight-episode series of Carrie for Amazon.
Flanagan is the director behind other King projects such as Doctor Sleep, Gerald’s gameand the imminent Life of Chuck. He is also working on an adaptation of The Dark Tower.
Flanagan is a very talented storyteller and director, and I have no doubt that he will make a fantastic new adaptation of Carrie.
Arrie tells the story of a shy and awkward high school girl, Carrie White, who is relentlessly bullied by her classmates and tormented by her fanatically religious mother, Margaret.
While going through all this and feeling isolated and misunderstood, Carrie discovers that she has telekinetic powers.
When a cruel prank is played on her at the school prom, Carrie snaps, unleashing her pent-up rage and using her powers to exact devastating, deadly revenge on her tormentors and the town.
The story’s climactic prom scene is one of the most iconic in horror literature, and highlights how uncontrolled emotional trauma can lead to catastrophic results.
The first film adaptation of the book came from the director Brian DePalma in 1976. This was followed by Anger: Carrie 2 in 2002, and then there was a 2013 remake starring Chloe Grace Moretz AND Juliana Moore.
The original film is still the best adaptation of the story, but as a fan of Flanagan, who also developed shows like The Haunting of Hill House AND Midnight massI can’t wait to see what it offers.
What do you think of Flanagan’s adaptation? Carrie as a TV series?
