Genndy Tartakovsky I just released a really cool trailer for Primordial Season 3, which reveals a wild and unexpected twist! After Spear’s emotional death in season 2, the new trailer for Primordial Season 3 reveals that our prehistoric warrior is returning, but this time he’s not dead!
The shocking reveal was first shown at New York Comic Con, where fans got their first look at the next brutal chapter in Tartakovsky’s epic saga before the trailer was officially released online.
In a previous interview, Tartakovsky promised that season three would push the show’s boundaries even further, saying:
“It’s a new level. Everything we did in season one, we improved it a little bit in season two, and season three is even more. I can’t say anything without giving everything away, but it’s just more, and it’s shocking, and it’s unstoppable. At some point, you’re like, ‘I can’t believe I’m watching this.'”
He also reflected on how proud he is of the show’s coherence and evolution, adding, “From a quality standpoint, from an animation standpoint, from a story standpoint, emotionally, I don’t want to exaggerate, but I’ve rarely been proud of a project like this.
“At the end of the day, we’ll get these 30 episodes and we’ll look back on it Right AND The Powerpuff Girls and even Samurai Jackhow much our quality faltered just because of the process and everything else, that’s so solid. And to have a solid 30, incredible [episodes] for a modest budget, I’m really proud of it.”
Tartakovsky initially considered turning the third season into an anthology series, but ultimately decided to focus on Spear. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Tartakovsky explained his decision, saying:
“Yes! He’s a zombie. I won’t talk about how he became one. We’ll obviously reveal that on the show. I finished the [season 2] story and I was moving forward. Then I started having second thoughts. I just spent 20 episodes of people caring about people, and then I kill off the main character, which is fine, but then, what are my options?”
He went on to reveal that trying to turn the show into an anthology didn’t seem right. “The other stuff I was doing didn’t feel quite right, maybe because I hadn’t finished the story. And because we had that ‘Plague of Madness’ episode in the first season where he was a zombie dinosaur, this is part of our world. It’s pulp. It’s the pulpiest thing, the undead.”
Primordial Season three will continue the typical blend of visceral violence, dialogue-free storytelling and disturbing sound design, only this time with an undead twist.
The trailer leaves fans with many questions, but Tartakovsky has remained silent on major plot details. What it did confirm, however, is that Spear and Fang’s children, introduced in the season 2 finale, will play an important role in the future story.
Primordial Season 3 is set to premiere in January 2026, and it looks like Tartakovsky is taking this prehistoric world to even darker and more intense places than ever before.
