Rob Marshall in Talks to Direct GUYS AND DOLLS Remake for Sony TriStar Pictures

Director Rob Marshall He is known for his work in hit musicals such as Chicago, Mary Poppins Returns, In the woodsAND The Little MermaidHe has now set his sights on a big-screen remake of the classic 1995 musical Boys and Girlswhich has also been a favorite among theatergoers over the decades.

Marshall is in talks and if the deal goes through, he and John DeLuca will write the script with John Requa And Glenn Ficarra.

John Goldwyn, Marc Toberoff and Marc Platt will produce alongside Marshall and DeLuca, while TriStar president Nicole Brown and Shary Shirazi will oversee the project for the studio.

In 2019, Sony bought the remake rights to the original Damon Runyon short stories about gamblers and gangsters, as well as the rights to the Broadway musical. The studio also acquired the remake rights to the earlier 1955 film adaptation from the Samuel Goldwyn Company.

That version of Boys and Girls with stars Marlon Brando, Jean Simmons, Frank SinatraAND Vivian Blaineand was directed by Joseph L. Mankiewiczwho also wrote the screenplay.

Boys and Girls opened on Broadway in 1950, where it ran for 1,200 performances over three years. It won five Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and has since been revived several times, including a 1992 version starring Nathan Lane and Faith Prince.

20th Century Fox previously owned the rights to the film, with My First Encounter with Channing Tatum AND Joseph Gordon Levitt considered a possible lead, but the project was ultimately killed by the Fox-Disney merger.
