Ryan Reynolds named his four favorite movies: none of them mainstream

The actor surprised fans.

In recent years, Ryan Reynolds has starred exclusively in big Hollywood blockbusters. And this does not mean at all that the actor is no longer interested in independent auteur cinema.

In a recent interview, Reynolds told his fans his favorite films, which didn’t include any mainstream projects.

Here are the 4 films the actor called the best:

Gaslight, 1944

George Cukor’s film noir coined the term “gaslighting.” The story of a girl, Paula, psychologically challenged by her abusive husband helped Ingrid Bergman win an Oscar.

Even if you don’t like black-and-white films, Gaslight is worth a shot – the 80-year-old film looks as alive in 2024 as it did in the 1940s.

Murder in Grosse Pointe, 1997

Few people have heard of this crime comedy starring John Cusack and Minnie Driver. The film, directed by George Armitage, largely inspired Reynolds to take acting seriously.

The story here revolves around murderer Martin Blank, who returns to his hometown for a reunion. Blank will not only try to fulfill his next “assignment” but also make peace with his teenage love.

By plane, by train, by car, 1987

This comedy starring John Candy and Steve Martin inspired dozens of other Hollywood films, but its name is not on everyone’s lips. The zealous PR man Neil Page tries to fly home and gets into big trouble: he has to get home on his own two feet, and even in the company of the half-crazed Del Griffith.

The hilarious comedy is considered a classic in the United States, but in Russia everyone has long forgotten it.

Rebekah, 1940

Reynolds said his favorite film was “Rebecca,” the great Alfred Hitchcock’s first Hollywood film. The story centers on the new wife of an English aristocrat, who is haunted by the ghost of her husband’s former passion.

The mystical story received two Oscars and the performances of Laurence Olivier and Joan Fontaine are still considered among the best acting of the Golden Age of Hollywood.
