Pixar officially announced Incredibles 3 was in development at D23 earlier this month and they announced that the franchise director Brad Bird he was also coming back to give life to this new story.
Pixar Head Pete Doctor recently sat down with Fandango and during the conversation he talked a bit about Incredibles 3 and its director.
The doctor said, “Brad [Bird] he’s an amazing collaborator. He’s so fiery and passionate. Different people work in different ways. He’s a guy who needs a little more time to build up energy and get the passion and power going.
“I think we’re at that point now. And we’re not sharing any details right now, because it’s still pretty malleable in terms of what the story is actually about.”
He continued: “The great thing about Brad’s movies, when you look at Ratatouille, is that on the one hand it’s a fun comedy about a rat who wants to cook.
“But when you dig deeper, it’s about, ‘What does it take to do this?’ Passion versus opportunity. He always has these deeper sociological ideas, and so I think that’s where we’re starting from.”
Bird is a talented director and a great storyteller and I’m surprised he hasn’t made more films. I’m happy to see him return to the Incredibles franchise, but I’d love to see him make more original films.
I know Bird has tried to get other projects off the ground, like a live-action-animation hybrid musical and his project about the 1906 San Francisco earthquake, but neither got off the ground.
