Two weeks ago, season 2 of Star Trek: The Prodigy has been released on Netflix, and the series, which follows “a motley crew of young aliens who must figure out how to work together as they explore a larger galaxy in search of a better future,” has almost welcomed a familiar face—or voice—back into the franchise.
The show’s co-executive producer Aaron J. Waltke recently sat down with Screen Rant to talk about the series and explained that they wanted Chris Pine to reprise the role of Captain Kirk this season:
“At one point, I think we talked about what other universes we could explore? And I think at one point, we talked about trying to introduce the Kelvin universe as well, but we just didn’t have time in the ‘Cracked Mirror’ episode, where they’re exploring all the different universes. And we were like, ‘Oh, what if we introduced that Captain Kirk, and he was just going to help them out for a couple of episodes?’
It was a cute idea, but there was a little too much sauce in the stew, that sort of thing. I think it would have been fun. But I think it would have strayed from the story we were telling.
It would have been Captain Kirk’s show for a couple of episodes. Maybe it’s season three, we’ll find out.”
It would have been nice to see her crossover into this series aimed at a younger audience, but it seems like that idea was cut for good reasons.
In Star Trek: The Prodigy Season 2: “These six young outcasts who make up the Prodigy crew are assigned a new mission aboard the USS Voyager-A to rescue Captain Chakotay (voiced by Roberto Beltran) and bring peace to Gwyn (voiced by Ella Purnell) home world. However, when their plan goes awry, a time paradox is created that jeopardizes both their future and their past.”
Voice cast members include My Kate Mulgrew like the Janeway hologram, Brett Gray like Dal, Ella Purnell like Gwyn, Angus Imrie like Zero, Riley Alazraqui like Rok-Tahk, Baker Dee Bradley like Murf, and Jason Mantzukas (1970-1985) is a famous person. like Jankom Pog.
Seasons one and two of Star Trek: The Prodigy are now available on Netflix.
