Colin Firth stars in Peacock series LOCKERBIE based on the true story of a 1988 plane crash

Oscar-winning actor Colin Firth (The king’s speech, Kingsman) has signed on to star in a new Peacock series titled Lockerbiewhich tells the true story of the 1988 plane crash in which 259 passengers and crew members died.

On December 21, 1988, Pan Am Flight 103 exploded over Lockerbie, Scotland, 38 minutes after takeoff. In addition to the 259 victims aboard the flight, 11 other residents died as the plane crashed into the quiet town. Firth will play Dr. Jim Swire, who tragically lost his daughter Flora in the event and has since worked with his wife Jane to seek justice for the families of the victims.

“Following the disaster and the death of his daughter Flora, Dr Jim Swire (Firth), is appointed spokesperson for the families of the UK victims, who have come together to demand truth and justice,” states the official description of the show. “Travelling across continents and political divides, Jim embarks on a relentless journey that not only jeopardizes his stability, his family and his life, but completely upends his faith in the justice system. As the truth shifts beneath Jim’s feet, Jim’s view of his world remains forever tarnished. Exploring the events of the disaster and its aftermath, Lockerbie provides an intimate account of a man, a husband and a father who risks everything in memory of his daughter and in his constant search for truth and justice.

Powered by Swire e By Peter Biddulph book The Lockerbie bombing: a father’s search for justice, the five-part limited series is a co-production between Downton Abbey producers Carnival Films, part of Universal International Studios, and Sky Studios. Scottish playwright David Harrower (Blackbird, Knives in the chickens) will serve as lead author, while Maryam Hamidi (Vigil) is a guest writer on one episode. Peaky Blinders helmsman Otto Bathurst is on board as principal conductor, and Jim Loach (Save me) will also direct an episode.

Production on “Lockerbie” will begin early this year.
