Star Wars fans are in for a treat, as LEGO Star Wars has released three brand new Christmas shorts, just in time for Christmas. In the galaxy far, far away, they are celebrating Life Day, and we can take a look at their celebrations below. Over at StarWars.com, the makers of the shorts gave us little synopses for each short and also gave us some insights into what inspired the adventures.
“Twas the Night Before Life Day” – In homage to the well-known holiday classic, Yoda tells the story of R2-D2 ruining a Life Day party thrown by the Emperor aboard the Death Star.
-
“We knew we wanted to make a Life Day short film with Vader and the Emperor set at a party, but beyond that we weren’t sure what it would be. I was brainstorming during the winter of 2022, so ‘Twas the Night” Before Christmas was in the air,” said writer David Shayne. “I came up with the idea, and since I hadn’t discussed it with anyone at LEGO or Lucasfilm, I thought I’d write a verse or two and see if they would accept. But I got carried away and ended up writing the whole thing (sometimes things come together quickly) and sent them a “what do you think” email. Luckily, they succeeded! A few edits later and we were recording! It all came together VERY quickly, but sometimes I wonder if I would have gotten the initial idea if I had brainstormed in July.”
“Chewie’s Holiday Cheer Up” – Noticing that Chewbacca is disappointed not to celebrate Life Day with his family, Han rallies the rebels at the Yavin base to surprise Chewbacca with a Life Day celebration of their own.
-
“For many of us, celebrating the holiday is done by observing traditions, and it’s no different for the Wookiees: the hanging of Life Day orbs brings the community together to recognize the meaning of the day,” recalled writer Jason Stein. “As we reflected on our holiday experiences, being away from home can sometimes make it difficult to enjoy the traditions that make the holidays special. Luckily for Chewbacca, his fellow rebels at Base Yavin won’t let Life Day pass without a proper celebration which shows the strength of their friendship as they work together to recreate those traditions.”
“Treasures of Tenoo” – Tasked with finding items for Master Yoda, young Jedi Kai Brightstar and Lys Solay set out to find the pieces and learn a valuable lesson.
-
“After introducing young Kai and Lys in Young Jedi Adventures earlier this year, we wanted to showcase the energy and exuberance that drives them to take on challenges big and small, while capturing the sense of curiosity and wonder that the Christmas spirit evokes in children and adults”, underlined Stein. “Laning on Yoda’s thoughts about how ‘truly wonderful the mind of a child is,’ we show youngsters enthusiastically embracing a task while learning patience along the way, complete with a little Christmas magic from Master Yoda.”
