“Like most places in New York, you just pay a fee and you’re allowed to shoot in that place. We approached the Plaza Hotel, which was owned by Trump at the time, because we wanted to take pictures in the lobby. “We couldn’t rebuild The Plaza on a solid stage,” Columbus said in an interview with Business Insider.

We paid the fee, but he also said, ‘The only way I can use the plaza is when I’m in the movie,’” Columbus explained. “So we agreed to put him in the film, and when we showed the film for the first time, the strangest thing happened: people cheered when Trump appeared on the screen. So I said to my editor, ‘Leave him in the film.’ It’s an audience moment.’ But he could talk in the film.”
