Dr. Jackie Walters, star of Bravo Married to medicineapologized after backlash over 2020 comments that said black women “cried” during pregnancy.
“I’m taking a much-needed break to comment I made during a live interview with one of my cast members in 2020,” said Dr. Jackie in a video on her Instagram page. “First and foremost to black women and mothers, including your friends and the medical community who care about you because my words hurt you and made you feel unsupported.”
She continued: “I want you to know that I hear you, I see you, I believe you, and I apologize from the bottom of my heart. I am sad about this. The guilt and reality that I have hurt and offended people, especially black women and some of my own patients, hurts me to the core.”
In 2020, Dr. Jackie was at a live broadcast Married to medicine Co-star Dr. Hemels where she said black women are not always honest with their doctors.
“As African-American women, sometimes we’re a little more dramatic and you go to the doctor and complain and complain and complain and don’t get taken seriously because you cried the whole pregnancy,” said Dr. Jackie. “Black women in America are three times more likely to die in childbirth. This is inexcusable,” the vice president wrote on Instagram and an excerpt of her conversation with dr. Jackie.

After dr. Jackie apologized, dr. Heavenly reposted it on her page and added: “That’s my dog!!! I knew she would do it right! We love you.”
Dr. Simone Whitmore has dr. Jackie chimed in during the comments and released the following statement: “I know firsthand, both personally and professionally, that Dr. Jackie is an amazing doctor. As black midwives, we are grateful when patients choose us and put their trust in us. Black mothers die three times more than any other ethnic group, and we are working hard to combat these statistics.”
