James Gunn says Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool was almost in the PEACEMAKER season 2 finale

THE Peacemaker The season 2 finale might have included one of the wildest superhero crossovers ever. Second James Gunn, Ryan ReynoldsDeadpool almost appeared in the DC Universe.

In a now-deleted interview with Deadline, Gunn admitted that he almost pulled off a surprise between Marvel and DC in the final episode of Peacemaker Season 2. The director revealed:

“Yes, I wanted them to open the door and see Deadpool in a room.”

Gunn says he actually reached out to Reynolds to make it, saying:

“I talked to Ryan Reynolds about it and we would have to take some very, very big steps to do it. He wanted to do it. The only thing everyone will be talking about now is f—- Deadpool in the other room.”

It’s hard to imagine a wilder scene than Peacemaker opening a door only to find Deadpool lying inside, breaking the fourth wall as John Cena’s character stares at him in disbelief. Unfortunately, the cameo didn’t make it past the idea stage.

Gunn also took the opportunity to talk about the future of Peacemaker, confirming that a third season is not currently on the table.

“That doesn’t mean he won’t be there. I don’t want to say never say never, but right now, no, it’s about the future of the DCU. He’s an important character.”

The season two finale, titled “Full Nelson,” premiered on October 10, 2025, wrapping up the show’s multiverse storyline and teasing where the DC Universe may be headed. Reactions to the ending were mixed and many fans hated it.

But the thought of Deadpool almost jumping into madness for a brief moment would have been very funny. It would also have opened the door for a big crossover between DC and Marvel that fans have been wanting to see happen for years.
