The highly anticipated second part of Yellowstone Season 5 will premiere on Paramount Network in November 2024. We have a whole year to wait, but at least we know when we can expect it. It was also announced that we will have two more spin-off series.
There is a prequel series that is in development under the working title 1944, and there is also a contemporary spin-off series in development that is “expected to continue with the format of the prequel titles, getting a working title in 2024.” This series will premiere after the conclusion of Yellowstone.
I assume this contemporary spin-off is the one previously announced Matthew McConaughey sequel series. The changes to the Yellowstone series came after it was reported Kevin Costner he would not return to the series after the fifth season. Costner wanted to focus more on his two-part epic western film Horizonwhich had a big impact on his willingness to shoot Yellowstone and negotiations for his return failed.
Chris McCarthyPresident/CEO of Showtime and MTV Entertainment Studios said in a statement: “In five years, we have transformed Yellowstone from a hit U.S. cable show with five million viewers into a hit global franchise with more than 100 million fans worldwide. across the globe and multiple extensions – and we’re just getting started. Building on the success of 1883 and 1923, our new planned spin-offs, 1944 and 2024, will take audiences on an exciting, new and unexpected journey with complex storytelling and compelling story that has become a hallmark of the franchise and helped transform it into a global cultural phenomenon – thanks to the creative mind of Taylor Sheridan.”
David Glasser, CEO of 101 Studios added: “The global success of Yellowstone continues to excite and excite us at 101 Studios and Bosque Ranch. It’s been a truly exhilarating journey with our partners at MTV Entertainment Studios and we can’t wait to bring 1944 and 2024 to audiences around the world.”
Yellowstone chronicles the Dutton family who controls the largest contiguous cattle ranch in the United States. Between shifting alliances, unsolved murders, open wounds, and hard-earned respect, the ranch is in constant conflict with those it borders: a growing city, an Indian reservation, and fierce business rivalries.
The Yellowstone franchise will continue the exploration of the past and present of the Dutton family dynasty with new locations and characters, as well as some crossover characters. I love this franchise and can’t wait to see how these stories continue to develop for the Dutton family.
