PepsiCo announced a large-scale rebrand of Lay’s, as well as changes to the recipe.

According to PepsiCo Senior Design Director Carl Gerhards, “This redesign, the largest in the brand’s nearly 100-year history, is a declaration of love for our roots. With the new Lay’s brand identity, our team has created a flexible design system that highlights the brand’s iconic flavors from around the world.”
With the largest brand redesign in its nearly 100-year history, Lay’s is committed to demonstrating that real potatoes and real people are at the core of every chip, according to the company. The company plans to offer consumers a wider selection of products by eliminating artificial flavors and colors.
There will also be ingredient changes in Lay’s Baked and Lay’s Kettle Cooked chips. Lay’s Baked will be made with olive oil and contain 50% less fat than regular potato chips. The new Lay’s Kettle Cooked Reduced Fat Original Sea Salt will be made with avocado oil and will contain 40% less fat than regular potato chips.
There are more than 4,000 potato varieties registered in the world, and only 10 of them are suitable for the production of Lay’s potato chips. Lay’s spends up to nine years developing the best potatoes for farmers.
Meanwhile, Pepsi had previously changed its drink recipe for the first time in 20 years.
