The Star Trek universe is getting a whole new class of recruits and the latest trailer for Starfleet Academyrevealed during the Star Trek Universe panel at New York Comic Con, it promises a mix of mystery, high-stakes adventure and emotional depth that feels right at home in the franchise’s legacy.
This second trailer gives fans a much more in-depth look at what’s to come, going beyond the “college” vibes of the first teaser released over the summer.
The series will follow the first group of cadets admitted to the legendary Academy, now housed aboard the USS Athena, in over a century, as the Federation continues to rebuild after the devastating events of “The Burn” from Star Trek: The Discovery Season 3.
The footage showcases a vibrant mix of classroom moments, training missions and young adult drama, with new faces and returning favorites from across the Star Trek timeline.
Roberto Picardo reprises his Voyager role as an emergency medical hologram, together Discovery stars Tig Notaro AND Maria Saggiowho return as Jett Reno and Sylvia Tilly.
At the center of the story is cadet Caleb Mir, played by Sandro Rostawho seems destined for more than just academic success. The trailer reveals that Caleb’s past is deeply tied to Starfleet Academy’s new villain, Nus Braka, played by Paolo Giamattia half-Klingon, half-Tellarite hybrid with a dark history.
Braka once kidnapped Caleb’s mother, played by Tatiana Maslany (Black Orphan, She-Hulk), an event that marked the young man’s life. Years later, Captain Nahla Ake, played by Holly Hunterfinds Caleb and personally recruits him into the Academy.
Ake has a complicated history with Braka, which sets the stage for a tense reunion and a strong story arc that could become the backbone of the series.
It’s also in the cast Gina Yashere as Lura Thok, the half-Klingon, half-Jem’Hadar first officer of the Athena and cadet master of the Academy. Other cadets include Karim Diane as Jay-Den Kraag, a Klingon science prodigy; Kerrice Brooks as Sam, a Kasqian operations cadet; George Hawkins as Darem Reymi, a Khionian command cadet; Beautiful Shepard as Genesis Lythe, another student of the Command Path; AND Zoe Steiner as Tarima Sadal, daughter of the president of Betazed. Oded Fehr he will also return as Discovery’s Admiral Vance in a guest role.
This was also revealed Stefano Colbert will lend his voice to the Academy’s “Digital Dean of Students,” providing daily announcements into the universe.
The 10-episode first season of Starfleet Academy will premiere January 15 on Paramount+, with a two-episode debut.
