James Gann’s new “Superman” has not even come out and he is already criticized because of the most important mistake of the super hero genre of the past twenty years – the characters overload.
The film is explained as a solo, but various heroes from other angles of the DC universe will appear immediately: Mr. Terriff, a Jack Girl, Metamorph, Green Lantern, Plus the entire composition of the Daily Planet newspaper. Fans are afraid that the history of Superman can easily drown under the weight of secondary characters.
In an interview with Esquire, GANN was immediately asked: he is not afraid that the viewer would simply confuse names and costumes in this number of names. The answer was unexpected – the director referred to the “Oppenheimer” of Nolanovsky:
“In Oppenheimer there are more speaking rolls than ours. But no one claims that the main character is Oppenheimer there.”
According to him, the film is still aimed at a superman, and the characters around his simply different communication circles:
“Superman has work for work and friends without work. The presence of a superhel or emblem on costumes does not make these characters anything exceptional. These are just secondary roles, such as in every film.”
Gann also remembered that films with a large number of heroes are not news: “Civil War” by MCU, “Batman” with a mysterious, Penguin and Falcone, and his own “Guardians of the Galaxy” successfully handled this format.

But the fans remain fear – and not without reason. They also remember how the “Spider-Man 3”, “New Spider-2” and the late “Batmen” choke on the fact that they tried to fit in one film at the same time.
Gann ensures that the balance is observed and Clark Kent will remain in the center of history: “The film is called” Superman “. This is the most important role.”
