Saturday night live blessed viewers with a 2022 reboot of the 1991 film The bride’s father Reuniting Steve Martin, Martin Short and Kieran Culkin, who all starred in the original.
The latest incarnation of the franchise begins many years later as George Banks (Martin) celebrates the final engagement of his 52-year-old daughter Annie (Heidi Gardner). As much as he loves his princess, he admits that he can’t afford another Nancy Meyers-level party. In fact, his wife Nina (Chloe Fineman) is on her way to Lyft to pay off their latest wedding – their seventh!
Annie is sure to get her way, so this party needs a planner and none other than Franck (Kort). While the heavily accented Franck outlines all the ways the bride-to-be can be cheered up, her annoying brother Matty comes through the front door.
If you watch this door, another surprise is revealed. This was the second appearance of Selena Gomez, who appeared alongside Martin and Short on the popular Hulu comedy series. Only dead in the building.
In the sketch, she plays a sublime version of herself who will perform at Annie’s last wedding. George is horrified when he learns that it will cost $1.8 million to get the new wedding singer, giving the group the perfect opportunity to sing their version of the “Party Pooper” song.
