The production employees at Walt Disney Animation Studios are unionized.
Eligible Toon Studio employees voted overwhelmingly for representation by IATSE and the Animation Guild in collective bargaining. The latter, IATSE Local 839, reported that 93% of the vote was “yes”, with a remarkable turnout of 96%. Only five members voted no.
“Congratulations to the Disney Feature Animation production team!” the Animation Guild tweeted. Today they voted to be represented @IATSE and DAY. With a voting percentage of 96%, 93% voted yes!!! Let’s party!”
The union will represent about five dozen production coordinators, production managers and production managers. The employees announced their intention to join a union in March.
Overseen by the National Labor Relations Board, the Disney Animation Studios election began in mid-October using secret mail ballots and the results were announced today. Other employees, including managers, confidants, security guards and supervisors, are not part of the agreement.
