Showtime begins removing short-lived series from its streaming platform

The removal of some of the less popular Showtime series from the network’s streaming service has begun. According to sources, most of the affected shows lasted one season. As Deadline exclusively revealed today, that includes Enter the correct one and American gigolowhich has been cancelled. Moreover, they are in the process of being photographed American Rust, Wakefieldand How to Become a God in Central Florida which also ran for one season each, as well as the Jim Carrey star Was just a jokewhich produced two seasons, sources said.

The moves are part of Showtime’s integration into Paramount+ announced earlier today, with the linear network rebranding as Paramount+ along with Showtime later this year. As part of the changes, the company will “steer investment away from underperforming areas” that “represent less than 10% of our views,” Chris McCarthy, who oversees Showtime, said in his memo.

This strategy was followed by HBO Max, which removed a number of series from the platform last year to save costs.
