What does the sound of a non-existent animal sound like? For example, a yeti! According to Jill Culton of California, the writer and director of this film, the sound is similar to the sound of a yoga practitioner on her mat, or rather the sound of a meditative Tibetan Buddhist monk. An “Ommm…” that drifts and ends in a whisper. It’s like a vibration that comes from within and can be good for everything around, including plants and other living things. This is one of the poetic ideas of this Sino-American movie that was released in France in the fall of 2019.
Imagine a bustling Asian metropolis today, adorned with towers, neon lights and advertising posters, possibly Hong Kong or Shanghai. There, young Yi struggles all day to save a few bucks and fulfill his late father’s dream: to travel through China. Cousins Jin and Peng are also around. The first is a handsome man who spends his time taking selfies, and the second dreams of joining the NBA and becoming a basketball champion. Until… a funny creature with clean fur and blue eyes took shelter on the roof of the building where Yi lived. “I was inspired by the big hounds I grew up with,” explains Jill Culton. They’re like big boys, drooling, clumsy and dirty.” This is how Everest baptizes the Yi beast, obviously being chased by the “evil”. A wealthy old mountaineer and a very, very, very grumpy red-haired scientist. A duo surrounded by a horde of butlers (and women) dressed in dark clothes and armed with narcotic darts…
for young and old
There is only one solution to save Everest: bring it back to the Himalayas! An initial journey that Yi, Jin and Peng will embark on against all odds. There will be a mutated blueberry attack, flight under a giant dandelion transformed into a hot air balloon, and boat chases in 007-style canals… king kongwith my neighbor totoroand its implications ET, extraterrestrial, disgusting it does not go beyond the tracks of the children’s story, but is distinguished by some very successful animated sequences, in particular the sunflower fields turning into endless waves of flowers. Finally, for those who love Coldplay, Jill Culton imagined a beautiful scene with violin, a giant Buddha, magic yeti hairs to the music of a melancholic hit: Fix you. If you mix it all up, you get a few tears and an instant feeling of emotion that should impress young and old alike.
