Blumhouse Productions just released one of the most sought-after comic book properties of recent years. The studio behind Go out AND The black phone has officially obtained the rights to adapt Boom! The Studios’ hit horror comic Something is killing children from James Tynion IV AND Werther Dell’Edera.
Something is killing children follows monster hunter Erica Slaughter, who arrives in a small town terrorized by child-eating creatures.
Armed with her wits and a creepy plush octopus as a companion, Erica takes on nightmarish beasts while slowly uncovering the secret organizations and traumatic past that have transformed her into one of horror’s finest modern protagonists.
The comic has grown into a massive ongoing series, expanding its dark mythology and amassing a loyal fan base along the way.
The road to bringing Erica’s story to the screen was not an easy one. Something is killing children was the first in development at Netflix, with Mike Flanagan (The haunting of Hill House, the midnight mass) attached to guide the project.
Creative differences eventually led to him walking away, and the series later passed into the hands of Baran bo Odar AND Jantje Friesethe duo behind Dark. That version also fell apart.
Now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Blumhouse has won a fierce bidding war for the rights and plans to produce both a live-action film and an animated series. Even more interesting and interesting is this James Tynion IV he will personally take care of the animated adaptation, keeping the spirit of the original comics alive.
Jason Blum expressed his enthusiasm in a statement following the deal, saying, “It’s easy to see why audiences and critics alike praised Something’s Killing Kids.
“James and Werther’s comic book series taps into our most primal fears, drawing us into a fascinating world and introducing Erica Slaughter, the kick-ass heroine we all wish we had to fight the monsters that lurk in the dark.”
Blumhouse tackles Something is killing children It seems like the perfect match. The studio has a proven track record of turning dark, high-concept ideas into mainstream horror hits, and with Tynion involved, fans can expect a faithful yet cinematic version of the world he and Dell’Edera have built.
I can’t wait to see how this project turns out!
