Cavea Plus, a Georgia-based streaming service, has joined the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment anti-piracy coalition.
The coalition was formed in 2017 with a focus on copyright protection and enforcement and today has 42 members. The board consists of members from the Motion Picture Association, Disney, NBCUniversal, Netflix, Paramount, Sony Pictures and Warner Bros. as well as Amazon and AppleTV+.
Other companies that have joined in the past year include Latin America-based telecommunications company Tigo, Thailand-based TruVisions, Hong Kong-based Viu, Qatar-based beIN Sports and Saudi Arabia-based MBC Group.
Cavea Plus is the only legal streaming service in Georgia and was recently launched by the theater chain Cavea Cinemas.
MPA Chairman and CEO Charles Rivkin said in a statement: “Cavea Plus shares ACE’s deep understanding that piracy is a direct threat to the media and entertainment industry and we are delighted to welcome them to our global network . ACE’s influence reaches new markets almost daily, thanks to the growing network of media and entertainment companies participating in our global campaign to fight piracy and protect the creative industries.”
Salome Kuprashvili, managing director of Cavea Plus, said: “Georgia will now be one of the countries representing ACE. For our part, Cavea Plus is committed to the development of the legal streaming industry in Georgia. We believe that this is the only way to unleash the potential of Georgia’s creative sector and attract international partners to support the development of the local film and television market.”
According to ACE, pirate websites in Georgia have attracted more than 500,000 users in a country of 4 million people. The largest site had about 11 million monthly visits.
