Netflix subscribers from Russia reportedly complained about the suspension of their streaming services after a country invaded neighboring Ukraine.

According to local news agency RIA, the service cancellation was initiated by a class action lawsuit filed by law firm Chernyshov, Lukoyanov & Partners on behalf of subscribers in Moscow’s Khamovnichesky District Court against the broadcasting giant.
“The reason for the lawsuit was the violation of the rights of Russian consumers due to Netflix’s unilateral refusal to provide services to Russia,” the company said in a statement.
Subscribers demand 60 million rubles ($724,000) in compensation.
Netflix has less than a million local subscribers and has been operating as a local language for less than a year.
In February, Netflix refused to enact a law that required it to operate 20 free Russian channels, such as First Channel, as concerns over a military invasion of Ukraine escalated.
Netflix’s Russia operations are run by Entertainment Online Service, a subsidiary of the National Media Group, which owns the channel’s first episode.
Netflix did not respond to a request for comment during the press conference.
