State Duma deputy Roman Teryushkov criticized Russian tennis players who opposed the Russian Federation’s military special operation in Ukraine. He shared a great deal about tennis player Daniil Medvedev, who is the world’s first racket and plays under a neutral flag, on his Telegram channel. Therefore, on March 1, the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) and the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) banned Russian and Belarusian athletes from playing under the national flag and using their country’s anthem.

Teryushkov added that he suggests calling athletes “patriots with neutral status” who make concessions to participate in the competition.

The deputy stated that tennis is a “super-political sport” and that it is not so important in Russia.

For Medvedev, former tennis player Yevgeny Kafelnikov stood up.
