In the wake of the recent shootings that disrupted television production in Chicago and New York, Hollywood unions and an industry-wide occupational safety and management committee are discussing how to increase safety for the cast and crew on the spot.

“SAG-AFTRA and other entertainment unions are already in discussions with industry management and the work safety committee to focus on increasing safety where needed,” a SAG-AFTRA spokesperson told Deadline.

“The safety of SAG-AFTRA members in the workplace is of the utmost importance, especially in light of the increase in violent crime in many cities,” the spokesperson said. “Providing a safe working environment is the employer’s responsibility and this includes ensuring that the set has sufficient security to protect both cast and crew. We are working with the production to ensure that members have full security measures when they show up for work and pack their bags and that the perimeter of the sets is securely protected from the outside. “
