DOG 51 trailer unleashes a futuristic sci-fi thriller about AI-powered law enforcement

Studio Canal has released the first official trailer for Dog 51the latest sci-fi thriller from the French director Cedric Jimenezand it looks like a compelling journey into the dangers of predictive artificial intelligence and authoritarian law enforcement.

Set in a near-future Paris, Dog 51 imagine a city divided into three strict zones, where social classes are kept separate under the watchful eye of ALMA, a hyper-advanced predictive artificial intelligence that has completely reshaped the police.

When ALMA’s creator is assassinated, elite agent Salia (Adèle Exarchopoulos) and the disillusioned policeman Zem (Gilles Lellouche) are reluctantly forced to work together to solve the crime. What they discover threatens to expose the very system that controls their society.

The trailer teases a dark, high-stakes world reminiscent I, Robot AND Minority reportwith great dystopian imagery and lots of intrigue about the balance between justice and technology.

In addition to Exarchopoulos and Lellouche, the stacked cast includes Louis Garrel, Romain Duris, Valeria Bruni Tedeschi, Limb, Lala etc, Stephane Bakand even Thomas Bangalter of Daft Punk fame.

Director Jimenez sees this story as the final chapter in his law enforcement trilogy, following BAC North and November. He explained his approach in a statement:

Chien 51 it is my third film that explores the theme of law enforcement. Complete a trilogy on the subject, bringing together the “dog” of the BAC North and the elite November officer.

“If the police is the institution that allows the polis – the city – to function by tracking criminals, what happens when it adopts a tool so powerful that it pushes the system to the breaking point, even bypassing its essential counterpart: justice? Can we entrust the safety of a city’s inhabitants to an ultra-intelligent tool devoid of conscience and humanity?”

The screenplay was written by Olivier Demangel AND Jimenezadapted from a novel by Laurent Gaudéwith the production of Hugo Sélignac. The film will be released in French cinemas on October 15, 2025, including IMAX screenings.

Dog 51 feels like a tense and thought-provoking futuristic thriller, asking tough questions about how much power we’re willing to give up to machines in the name of safety. A US release date has not yet been announced.
