George Martin, author of the A Song of Ice and Fire book series that inspired Game of Thrones, was unable to attend the special premiere of the House of the Dragon prequel series in Los Angeles due to the positive test for coronavirus. Reported by Variety.

“I was going to start the day by introducing George Martin and tell him how great it was to have him traveling with us. But unfortunately, George got covid at Comic-Con, so he’s not here. Casey Bloys, content director for HBO and HBO Max, said before the show. “I think he’s doing well and we have nothing to worry about,” he said.

Martin confirmed that he was sick in a video message. The author noted that he caught the coronovirus despite getting vaccinated and wearing a mask in public. According to Martin, he’s tested for coronavirus three times and has tested positive each time. At the same time, the author emphasized that he felt well, although he had a slight runny nose and cough.
He also spent a lot of time at his home in Santa Fe, choosing not to visit the Dragon House set. The author has confirmed that he is working on the sixth and possibly penultimate book in the A Song of Ice and Fire series.
