According to Reuters, French police arrested five more suspects in connection with the theft of $102 million worth of treasure from the Apollo Gallery in the Louvre.

Paris prosecutor Laure Becquo told radio station RTL today that the last suspects were arrested in a series of raids in Paris and its northern suburbs on Wednesday evening. One of them was identified from DNA evidence left at the scene, but it is unclear whether all suspects were involved in the crime. The investigation gained momentum when phones and other items found on the suspects allowed investigators to examine their encrypted messages.
Becquo also added that the police unit, which specializes in combating the smuggling of cultural objects, is investigating the black market to find stolen artefacts. According to him, jewels can be used for money laundering purposes or as bargaining chips in organized crime circles.
On October 19, four hooded robbers looted and escaped during the museum’s opening hours in the morning, exposing security vulnerabilities at the world’s most visited museum. This daring robbery sent shockwaves around the world.
