Paramount Pictures has released the first trailer for Screams 7marking the highly anticipated return of Neve Campbell as the iconic final girl, Sidney Prescott. After you sit downt Scream VICampbell is officially back and no longer racing.
The seventh installment of the slasher series has had a long journey since it was first announced in August 2023. After the box office success of Scream VI, Screams 7 faced a wave of production hurdles, including WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, behind-the-scenes changes and major cast changes. But now, with the trailer out, the Ghostface mask is back, and so is the blood.
According to the official synopsis: “When a new Ghostface killer emerges in the quiet town where Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) has built a new life, her darkest fears are realized when her daughter (Isabel May) becomes the next target. Determined to protect her family, Sidney must face the horrors of her past to end the bloodshed once and for all.
It’s a story that hits close to home, literally. Sidney’s story has always been about survival, and now it seems she’s entering her fiercest battle yet, this time as a mother defending her daughter.
The film had many twists and turns off-screen too. Melissa Barrarawho directed the last two films as Sam Carpenter, was removed from the project after comments on social media about the Israel-Hamas conflict.
Jenna Ortega it came out soon after, citing a scheduling conflict with Netflix’s second season Wednesday. And in another curveball, Happy Death Day director Christopher Landon departed at the end of 2023, making way for Kevin Williamsonthe original creator of Scream, to return to the director’s chair.
Despite the failures, Screams 7 is stacking its cast with familiar and new faces. Alongside Campbell, fans will see the return of Courteney Cox, Freemason GoodingAND Brown Savoy Jasmine.
In a surprising twist, David Arquette, Matthew LillardAND Scott Foley they’re reprising their deceased characters, which will be interesting.
Newcomers to Woodsboro’s bloody playground include Isabel May, Celeste O’Connor, Asa Germann, McKenna Grace, Sam Rechner, Michelle Randolph, Jimmy Tatro, Anna Campo, Joel McHale, Marco ConsuelosAND Ethan Embry.
With Williamson returning the franchise to its roots and Campbell reclaiming her throne as the ultimate scream queen, the next chapter promises to blend nostalgia with new terror.
The trailer teases a darker, more personal story, in which Sidney Prescott isn’t just trying to survive; is ready to put an end to Ghostface’s reign for good.
