The trailer for Radu Jude’s DRACULA promises the wildest and strangest vampire movie yet

Romanian director Radu Jude sparked cinematic fever dreams with his adaptation of Draculaand it looks like the most chaotic and crazy version of the classic vampire myth we’ve ever seen.

The new American trailer, distributed by 1-2 Special, previews a film that is part satire, part horror, part artificial intelligence experiment and 100% crazy.

So what exactly is it? Dracula From? Even the description of the film itself is an adventure in itself. This is how it was presented at the Locarno Film Festival:

“A Dracula film shot in Transylvania. What does it contain? A vampire hunt. Zombies and Dracula strike. A science fiction story about the return of Vlad the Impaler. An adaptation of the first Romanian vampire tale. A love story. A montage film that reuses a classic vampire film. A vulgar folktale. Kitschy stories generated by artificial intelligence. And so many delights in a film that deals with this myth of cinema.”

It looks like cinematic chaos.

The film follows a frustrated filmmaker suffering from creative paralysis who turns to an AI chatbot for help in making his next blockbuster. Naturally things spiral out of control.

The result is a wild series of vignettes that dive into every possible version of the Dracula legend, from an anti-union vampire breaking a workers’ strike to surreal romantic tragedy and fields of, well… phalluses.

It’s an outrageous blend of tones and genres, and the fact that it includes AI-generated sequences has been used as a form of commentary on its absurdity, not as a crutch for creativity.

The film is the protagonist Adonis Tanța, Oana Maria Zaharia, Gabriele Spahiu, Ilinca Manolache, Alexandru Dabija, Andrada Balea, Doru Talos, Lucas Miko, Serbian PavluAND Alessandra Harapu.

If you’re expecting another moody gothic retelling of the Dracula story, forget it. This is something else entirely.

By Radu Jude Dracula is now available to watch.
