The pilot episode of It: Welcome to Derry was released on October 26 and was the last time the series was watched by Russian viewers. Let’s not forget that this is a prequel to Andres and Barbara Muschietti’s “It” duo, which shows the backstory of Pennywise, the evil clown who terrorizes children in their nightmares. Judging by the reviews, the project met expectations. The rating of the series on Imdb is 8 stars, on Rotten Tomatoes it is 81%, on Metactitcs it is a little more modest – only 6.2.
What the critics say

Before the premiere, foreign critics watched the first five episodes and left mostly positive reviews. Aramide Tinubu of Variety praised the cast, the atmosphere of paranoia before nuclear war during the Cold War, and the important themes portrayed through the children’s experiences. TV Insider’s Matt Rausch noted that there were some interesting Easter eggs sprinkled in ahead of Halloween (like The Shining and The Shawshank Redemption). Bob Strauss of The Wrap called Muschietti’s series a rip-off of another Netflix hit, Stranger Things, which featured more annoying child characters. In his opinion, the series is inferior to the project of the Duffer brothers, who created a deeper philosophy and mythology of the world of Hawkins and the Upside Down.
What do viewers say?

Foreign and Russian viewers agree: The pilot episode was a complete delight: “This is exactly how the story should begin.” From the first minutes, the series surprised us with truly strange and unpredictable horror scenes, for example, inside a car. Some Internet users agree that it is better not to watch it for the faint of heart and for children, as the scenes are truly shocking and too natural. Also, in the first episode, no one expected so many deaths: viewers admitted that they were in the denial phase, because children’s stories really evoke empathy (some even managed to get attached to them). At the same time, scenes with various beings from the bathroom and other locations caused more fear than Pennywise himself (played by Bill Skarsgård). The children’s acting is really top notch.
The second episode will be released on November 1. There are eight chapters in total. For those who love the eerie atmosphere of Stephen King’s books, we have compiled a list of the best film adaptations that you can watch while waiting for the new episodes of the series.
