Maria Riva, daughter of legendary movie star Marlene Dietrich, has passed away. She used her personal insights to write a biography of her famous mother’s turbulent life, The Washington Post reported.
Actress and writer Maria Riva, who spent most of her life as her mother’s “maid”, died on October 29 at her son’s home in Gila, New Mexico. He was 100 years old. Mary’s son Peter Riva confirmed the death but did not give a specific cause: “We will all miss Mary’s wit, advice and depth of human understanding. The family takes comfort in the knowledge that she will now be reunited with her husband of 50 years, William, her eldest son, Michael, and her parents, Marlene and Rudy.”
Maria is the only child of the famous actor. He was born in Berlin in 1924 to Dietrich and director Rudolf Sieber. Their parents, known to have had several high-profile relationships, ended their romantic relationship and lived largely apart but remained good friends. Shortly after Marlene Dietrich’s death in 1992, Riva published a biography of her mother in which she described their difficult relationship. He was also nominated twice for Emmy Awards in the early 1950s for his work in television.
