This is the first time Sanrio founder Shintaro Tsuji has secured the film rights to his beloved character. Beau Flynn of FlynnPictureCo., which produced the film, courted Tsuji for nearly a decade to get permission to shoot. FlynnPictureCo. Disney’s live-action film Moana, directed by Thomas Kail, is in post-production. It stars Dwayne Johnson and up-and-coming actress Katherine Laga’aia. The world premiere will take place on July 10.
