Johanna’s basic food purchases
Every week I buy organic vegetables at the market for my weekly meals, which I always prepare myself. I supplement with a little meat and fish when I feel like it, but not very often, so I would say, not every week. My parents have chickens, so I mostly eat the eggs they bring me when they come to visit. Otherwise for breakfast I buy sheep’s yoghurt, some bread, butter and jam.
The following week I mainly shop at the market on weekends. Otherwise, for the rest, the small daily errands, I go to a Carrefour Market or a Franprix.
I would say that my shopping budget is around 80 euros per week. I dedicate everything else to the dinners and aperitifs that I organize at home, during which I don’t hesitate to treat myself based on what my friends like.

“Known” brands in Johanna’s shopping cart
I live alone and am not very thrifty, so I admit that I don’t look too much at prices. Maybe I’ll be more careful the day I get into a relationship or when I have kids. But today I work a lot and in the end shopping is the only pleasure I can have without really counting on it.
So I tend to take the “known” brands rather than the first prices, this reassures me, I don’t know why, because in my opinion it is not a more reliable brand than the others, the large-scale distribution remains…
For all fruit and vegetables I prefer local and seasonal products, especially organic.
A large budget for shopping for the pleasure of inviting
Since I live alone, I’m the one who cooks. I like to cook everything I eat, except, of course, when I eat out at restaurants. I really like cooking and that’s also why my budget is so high. I receive friends very regularly, two or three times a week.
On the one hand because I don’t like being alone, on the other because it allows me to cook for people different from me, and when this happens I admit that I don’t count. It makes me so happy to please, seeing my friends eat the dishes I made.
No home delivery for conscience
Since I want to cook everything, they never let me have it delivered. This should happen about once or twice a year at most. I find that this fuels a system that doesn’t respect workers, so I don’t want to participate in it.
Johanna’s food crackers
When it comes to eating, I have a real passion for seafood. It can happen that I prepare a dozen oysters alone in front of a series, at home… I know, it seems strange, but when some people like pizza or burgers. , for me it’s oysters and whelks.
My friends and I are used to meeting regularly at home around a plate of seafood accompanied by a good bottle of wine. This is really my big problem, because it also costs a certain amount.
As for the food I can’t live without, I would have to say butter. I eat it on toast every morning and it really is a big guilty pleasure of mine. I can eat it on bread before dinner, as an aperitif, it fills all my snack moments…
